The problems with algorithmic social media

Social Media is Bad because since the algorithm tends to preference certain flavours of Content™ to surface it tends to end up resulting in content that's been tailored in some way to get popular being what we see. So if you go on Tiktok for example you'll see a lot of posts from people trying to get popular. And the problems with this are twofold. First of all, the methods of tailoring lead to the Content™ being Worse (e.g. clickbaity stuff, like terrible titles for youtube videos or that obnoxious "follow for part 2" thing on tiktok). The other is an issue of motivation - and maybe more of an issue with difficult-to-monetize platforms like Tiktok. If someone's trying to get popular purely to gain popularity or clout or whatever, what is wrong with them why would you do that? Don't do that. I mean with Youtube I can excuse it since it's a livelihood for a lot of the youtube people I watch, but what does tiktok popularity get you? Do you need to experience the woes of internet fame first-hand before learning it's a bad thing to seek? Are people incapable of observing a situation others are in and postulating that an experience is bad?

Anyway I am normal because I try to say "fuck" in tiktoks because I know the algorithm hates it, and my best and most true thoughts are posted here on a website nobody reads and I'd have no way of knowing if they did since I don't run any analytics on it.

I think this is a long way to say "fuck the algorithm" but also fuck the idea of compromising yourself in service of the algorithm. If people did not do the latter then Online would be a better place.
