On links pages
I've kind of added a lot to my links page lately. I mean, it's kind of only recently that I've even HAD a links page on this site, my original concept of it was more the "purely personal" space, and it's sort of morphed into something that's a social endeavour.
Inevitably, with the "building personal websites" boom born from the post-cohost era, a lot of these sites are people I knew from cohost. But not entirely. I guess partly I'm sort of thinking "what SHOULD I link here" to a certain extent. I definitely want to link to if my friends have a website. I've also tended into the "websites of people who I follow or think are cool" vibe. But like also I should just link to things I like.
Ooh, now I am thinking about websites as a concept. Cohost billed itself as "the fourth website" but like that's accepting the premise of "everyone is only going on a handful of websites, and a website is a big monolithic thing". Whereas a blog is more like... there's countless websites.
I guess it's like "this is my space, and I'll point you at the spaces of my friends and other spaces I think are cool". That seems like a nice sentiment?
