No seriously, stop posting on the bird site
The website X Formerly Known As Twitter is, I think we can all agree, bad. There's arguments that it was bad anyway but like it is Particularly Bad under the ownership of the prick that owns it now.
Tweeting or xeeting or whatever we call it now has the following effects
- Gives people a reason to look at twitter, which means more ad revenue for twitter, which means more money for Elon to donate to the Trump campaign
- Feeds their fucking AI bullshit machine thingy
- Is visible to those people who harass you, even if you block them
Look, I know Cohost, the site I actually liked, is no more. And asking you to use Mastodon is like asking you to use Linux so I won't do that. But like Bluesky is practically a drop-in Twitter replacement these days. It even has a winged creature on a blue background as a logo.
I mean, if you want to keep looking at twitter because other people still post stuff there, like fair enough lol. I still do. I locked my accounts down and don't tweet (although I may tweet this article out in order so that people get the message) but I totally get wanting to follow people and keep up with them. This is why tweeting is a problem, I think.
Like I know people who have Bluesky accounts. And they're certainly no fans of Elon. But they continue to use X Formerly Known As Twitter as the exclusive place to post their hot takes and whatnot, and their bluesky is just a few "oh wow I forgot about this site does anyone still use this?" type posts.
I do not want to have to look at twitter to see what my friends have to say. Post it on bluesky instead. Or idk start a blog or something. Stop fucking tweeting.
"oh but my audience is there" if your audience cares about you they will follow you elsewhere. If you're just trying to cling to "oh no I've somehow got an audience and now I neeeeeeed to be popular" then fuck off. If it's a financial/professional thing like you need to be seen as an artist then like this does not absolve you from needing to solve this problem.
I will make this as clear as possible, since I'll (ironically) be linking this on Twitter and I know you people love to read things in bad faith. It's understandable and I think reasonable to still maintain a passive presence on Twitter to keep up with and follow people who still primarily post there, especially given the amount of journalists and politicians who are still there. But you shouldn't yourself be posting there. Post your cool hot takes and fun jokes and stuff elsewhere, so I don't have to go to twitter to see them.
