I've just had SO many discs arrive this week

It has been a Big Week for the getting new discs for shelves. Some of this is just happenstance in terms of orders coming in but like it feels like a lot. Let's go through them.

Some stuff from Discotek - two thirds of my most recent order of their stuff from Amazon (rassin frassin crunchyroll won't take my money for their store, boo sony etc). GTO on SD-BD (that's standard definition blu-ray, entire show on one disc) and Mamoru Oshii's Dallos all nice and shiny in HD. Watched the first episode of Dallos, it seems neat. Of course I've seen some GTO in the past (although less than you'd think) but now I've got it all in what's likely the best quality it can exist in. And I can give it a proper watch at some point.

The long awaited Project A Collection from 88 Films. Nice new 4K remasters. I ordered this back in February from local importer OutrunDVD, but I think 88 Films just kept delaying the release date over and over, and finally it's actually done and I have it. I saw the original Project A years and years and years ago, and I am excited to rewatch it now that I'm intelligent enough to actually pay proper attention to films and understand the plot and such. And then there's alternate cuts and such which may be fun, haha.

Akira Kurosawa's Dreams, the 4K disc from Criterion. I mean, Kurosawa is Kurosawa. I've sort of got a mindset of I ought to get whatever I can from him on bluray, and I think after this there's just Imprint's release of Dersu Uzala that I may want to pick up. I have a bit of a backlog in terms of actually WATCHING Kurosawa though, so at this point I'm not as yet inclined to like dive deep into those Eclipse DVD boxsets of his early films and such. But like I do have BFI's 4K of Seven Samurai preordered, and it's been years since I watched that last.

Mars Express. Honestly I was sold from the words "French sci-fi animated film". Haven't watched it yet but I have heard good things. Looking forward to it.

A couple of A24 discs. A24's own webstore charges absolutely ABSURD international shipping fees. Luckily though, Diabolik has started stocking their stuff and if you go with Fedex their shipping prices are not too bad, and it's shipped well. I picked up the 4K of Stop Making Sense because of COURSE I did (grumble grumble at Madman not doing a local 4K) and like I know nothing about Marcel The Shell With Shoes On except that it's stop motion and about... a shell with shoes on, but it's supposed to be good so I am interested.

Felt like a big Discs Week this week, and considering how much I just wrote, I guess it really WAS a big discs week.
